The new Ladder 1, a 2007 Pierce
Lance with 100 foot Platform was
placed in service August 7th
after 6 months of training and
outfitting with all new
equipment. The truck represents
a first for the Northwest
Florida area in that the truck
is a traditional ladder/service
truck like those found in most
metropolitan areas. The truck
does not have a pump rather
relies on the responding engines
to supply the water when
elevated streams are desired.
Since the County was going from
a single Truck Company (old
Ladder 1) to two Truck Companies
(old Ladder 1 is being
reassigned to Sand Hill
Volunteer Fire Department as
Ladder 9).
Ladder 1 is equipped with 216
feet of ground ladders as well
as all NFPA and ISO required
equipment. Additionally, the
vehicle carries a full
complement of rope and equipment
to support high-angle rescue of
multiple victims. The Amkus
rescue system features a reel
and mounted in extended front
bumper and a second reel and
combination cutter/spreader in
the rear compartment. Other
rescue includes a full Paratech
USAR air bag system, Paratech
airgun air chisel, and multiple
air air shoring. To support
special rescues from the
platform and away from the truck
an Ogura Handi Rescue System
including cutters and spreaders
is carried |
