Join us in making our community safer and give yourself a great feeling of satisfaction as well.

The Thomas Drive Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1972 when a group of concerned citizens came together to improve their fire protection in the early development of the east end of the beach area.  In 1985 the first paid staff members began working along side with the volunteers.  In 1995 Bay County unified the 10 independent Volunteer Districts to form the Fire Services Division of Bay County Emergency Services.  Today Thomas Drive Volunteer Fire Department is an integral part of the County Fire Rescue Service.  Thomas Drive is the largest District in the County system and operates three stations, #1 2913 Thomas Drive, #2 2911 Alison Avenue and #3 4024 Holiday Drive.  There are 15 Bay County firefighters assigned to the Thomas Drive District working on 3 five person shifts (24 hour on / 48 hours off) at Station 1.  Currently we have approximately 25 volunteer members who respond from home or work to man additional apparatus at Station 1 and the apparatus at Stations 2 and 3.

There are a wide range of opportunities for community members to serve their fellow citizens through the Thomas Drive Volunteer Fire Department.  First the oblivious we all ways need firefighters and emergency medical (EMT) to meet the ever increasing demand for service in our dynamic growing community.  We are today answering about 3 to 4 calls per day or 1000 plus request for aid every year.  There are also a whole group of non emergency services where help is needed such as fire prevention/education, recruiting, bookkeeping, general administrative services, facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, communication/data automation, web maintenance, youth program leader, etc.

No prior training is required in any capacity, Bay County and Thomas Drive will provide all required training to fill all the positions.  Much of the training is accomplished through Gulf Coast Community College and provide college credit and where required State and/or National certifications.

To apply fill out the Thomas Drive and Bay County application forms completely.  Note on the first page of the Bay County application form the section ‘SERVICES’ indicate the specific services you wish to perform is service to you fellow citizens.
